i'm going from a 100gb/month limit to a 30gb/month limit, way more than what the bot uses... making it impossible to keep it up anyway... my habits will have to change a lot too, less bandwith-intensive stuff....

true... the other day, i sorted out my 1600 files in my shared folder (where i place everything i download)Proxy wrote:Poor poor Misho Your porn collection is going to suffer isn't it?
i sorted out 30 gigs of manga and 10 gigs of porn out of that.... and found 10 gigs of space by deleting the old shit that i forgot to delete over time...
it took me a good 2 hours to do it, but now it doesn't take 3-5secs to open anymore ^_^ only 260 files left in there!

Recently acquired 50/10mbits internet. I don't know it it'll help even if I do host. Since I live in Sweden, everyone would get horrible ping. Well at least my file server will be on 24/7. So hosting is not the problem, the ping is. But if you want a server, just ask. and I'm sure misho will send me the appropriate files.
Btw, misho how much bandwith does a full dotd game need? 2-3mbits?

I have nothing against hosting a bot. as long as someone provide me with the files. and a cdkey I guess. I don't wanna tinker around with it.
So misho will still be the admin over it if he wants to. Otherwise it will be unmanaged.

a full game takes about 10kb/sec of upload... and extremely minimal download... maybe 5kb/sec
the thing that takes most of the speed is the downloaders, you have to make sure your settings are there to limit the uploading speed to not clog up your connection and make everyone lag
why don't you make a bot for europe? you'll revive the europe realm!
i can provide with the files.... configurations... but not a CD Key...
but tinkering it will be some work

The fact that I don't really care is the thing. All i'm saying is that I'm offering 2mbit/s for a wc3 bot. I will not do anything else. Thinkering, managing or providing a serial etc.

stop being lazy and open your firewall ports!
Firstly, though, I have to say that even though I don't know you, Mishotaki, I feel very sorry about your joblessness and loss of financial stability. My best wishes with you recovering soon to a point of decent living (of which I believe everyone ought to have). I thank you for your contributions to the clan thus far, even though I never really had a chance to witness it, I appreciate what you've done.
But onto a solution for the clan...
Like you said, sir, it only makes sense that people take some responsibility to open their firewall ports (it's so bloody easy). I am a hoster, and I'm always glad to host a game for folks.
Just so you all know now, I am a big fan of diplomacy maps, LotR/RTS maps, certain lore maps (Azeroth Wars LR/Dark Ages of Warcraft), and almost every zombie-survival map (from NotDA to UAII to DotD, etc). Feel free to hit me up if you see me online and if I'm not immediately busy, I'll be happy to get a game going.
I haven't been playing WC3 for several months, and the whole idea of bots hosting is pretty new to me. I just host normally with a regular autorefresher and just get games going the good ol' way, which I think is important to do. Bots make people lazy, it's a known fact, and laziness = ineptness. We don't want weak troopers on the battlefield, facing off with bloodthirsty Zs charging at 'em.
So yeah. I think it would be a good idea to assemble a list (perhaps here on the forum and maybe even a command for the bot, such as ".hosters" or something that lists the usernames of people who are known to be able to host, who the player can /whois to check if any are online) for public access to help keep activity up and more community interaction.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts right now. Thanks for reading.
Good luck and have fun.

it's true that having a bot makes people not host themselves, making them say:" let's go to the bot game instead, it's easier"LordJhredmo wrote:I haven't been playing WC3 for several months, and the whole idea of bots hosting is pretty new to me. but it helped make the game more known to people and the clan got big pretty fast with a lot of playing members...
i think having a list of people who you can ask to host a game would be pretty neat too!
(i just looked into that with my miragebot, but i got no idea how to do scripting stuff....)

No no. There's no problem with the bot use, in my mind. I'm just saying we can look at the loss of it from a positive perspective, that it will open the opportunity for more connection between members, when looking for hosts and interacting with live hosts.
