Wheel of Time
Sun 11 Jun 2006, 16:39
I was just wondering if anyone here has read the fantasy series Wheel of Time. The reason for this is that I'm making a map based on the books, and I need ideas.

as we have to pause our mod atm due to the search of a new homepage, i would have some time to do terrain if you want... but at least i need some hints how the terrain should look like... (swampy, thick forest, etc....)
if you want you can sent me the map to Riedl.D@web.de

The last one is some sort of Risk I think. But ok, I'll describe the terrain I want, and then send you the map.

ah m8, sorry for no response last day - had serious problems again with my stupid internet connection....
so: well you told me more fortress-like, yes? hm... what you mean exactly with that? should i remove the whole town? no buildings and such? only walls? well, i will do that but in my eyes it wont look very good then... cz that will mean i wont be able to use as much doodads as now...
so if ya could be a little more detailed would be nice thx m8

No worries
Well, I mean more like a town behind a wall. To bad you haven't read the books, would make it a little bit easier to explain. But have you played the map Lotr hero siege? If so, simmilar to that one. If not you can dl it here if you want .

well... ok so far but should i stay with those building-models that i used already or you want (like in the lotr-map) the building/town only built with walls (the urban WE-cliffs)?
hm... maybe you have also a screenshot, scan or whatever else visual to show me? well, would be not really important but could be a good support...

The buildings is fine. and yeah i'd like the walls to be build from cliffs.
The city on the bottom is called Tar Valon in the books and i've found a picture of it, if it is any help.

oh thats indeed a great help - although i wont doing the wall with cliffs as they can be built only straight... and dont look very good anyway in my eyes... if you dont need the cliffs for gameplay reasons i would suggest to use resized versions of doodad-walls....
what you think?

And one more thing, I'd like some ruins here and there, and one bigger which should look something like this:

o.0 what models i should use for that?.... hm....
heh, and where i should put them? i only could add some ruins if you allow me to increase the map-size... at least the height =/

sure, but i just thought maybe you need the cliffs for triggers or whatever in game... ^^
ok i will use doodad-walls then

Acctually, I would like you to increase the height of the map. And it doesn't really matter what ruin modells you use.

heh, sure, im creating loadingscreens for the gtw mod - would be weird if i wouldnt know...
so what exactly you want to know about them? if you have already a finished picture or parts of it sent it to me and i make it a loadscreen for ya...
anyways here a hint in common: you can use 2 kind of loadscreens:
-one stretched 512x512 image
>advantage: only 1 image, low size (about 0.8Mb)
>disadvantage: relatively bad resolution
-a sliced loadscreen with 4 parts: 2 - 512x256 and 2 - 256x256
>advantage: good resolution, no streched image
>disadvantage: 4 parts, larger filesize (about 1.8Mb if i remember correctly)

well, i wont paint a whole new pic as i didnt read any books so its hard for me to imagine anything from WoT - and i think i wont have the time for it
but once you have a picture (or maybe more pics of some WoT characters that i can merged into one loadscreen) then i will work on it and make a LS out of it - if you want

That would be great, but that is kinda low on my priority list right now.
