Proper Bot Usage and Warnings given
Wed 08 Jul 2009, 05:59
Tonight, i have seen a behavior that i really frown upon.... i saw people use the bot's public game as their own private game....
saying it like that, there is nothing wrong.... but when you kick people out of the game with !open and happen to take over every single slot that were used by public game joiners, i find it really bad admin power trip usage...
upon watchign the logs, i see that a hell of a lot of you used it to kick people.... some used it a couple times like DarkSath and 5fingrdthpnch
but others used it to clear out games for themselves like hammondo
hammondo managed to use it 11 times today only....
it is not a good behaviour for public games at all... there is other means to make your own private game than kicking everyone who want to play the game outside of your group... the autohosting function is to make EVERYONE to be able to play games, not just our group of players...
this is an official public warning to hammondo
abusing your powers will end up in losing them... it's not a right, it's a priviledge....
This is an official public warning to XArmyof1x
abusing the !swap command... 49 times in 2 days is not using your powers, it's overusing them to play around...
This is an official public warning to xCHeEcHx
teamkilling, flaming and kicking is not something i accept towards clanmates
This is an official public warning to That_Bastard
playing with the ban command, banning a spammer before even trying to kick him, kicking people with no apparent reason
banning a guy for stealing an item... kicking random people, playing with the !lat command, overusing the !ping command, not reading the rules properly, not reading the commands properly....
sigh.. and no he doesn't get another chance, that was enough that i stopped looking and removed his admin...

sometimes its usefull to boot spammers and morons before game start , or to open a slot for a mate that want come in.
Yes, better make it private if its only friend/clan game.

Yes, better make it private if its only friend/clan game.
problem is that you dont always have enough friends or clan memebers on to play a full game so you have to make it public.
some guidelines need to be established in that case.
something like:
Any auto hosted game i.e. [Dawn Of The Dead #123], no player should be removed unless a reason can be given liks spaming nad abusive language etc.
Any other created game, the owner of the game is solely responsible for everything. you would then have to trust that all people that have bot access are responsible and mature enough not to just kick people in game cause they dont like them etc.
thats more or less the system we use in Clan TBR and it seems to work fine.

most of the time channel is full and some people dont play if they are not enought fast to come in before the game start.
for clan/friends its better to make priv games in that case .. so random people and non clan playeers can play together .
I dont like much having randoms in games ...
TK , leaving at start , dying too fast . that makes the game pointless
but sometimes u can have excellent PVT , ihad also some nice games with them .
but really , if in a public game I have a random player and my friend waiting in channel to get in , i will open the slot .
I think that understandable , and many would do the same .
The problem is abusing of admin power as misho said .
if its for going in a public game and kick evryone to let in clan peopl . better leave the game and wait the bot come back in channel to make it host a new game
yeah , its true bigred we need rules ..

Ouch, you got busted hamm
Use !privby (name) (game name) to host a private game instead of joining the autohost games and kicking people.
Or tell someone else to host.

that is not the only problem at hand.... you're not using the proper commands.... you're kicking people using the !open command....DarkSath wrote:but really , if in a public game I have a random player and my friend waiting in channel to get in , i will open the slot .Big_Red wrote:problem is that you dont always have enough friends or clan memebers on to play a full game so you have to make it public.

It's not that i don't know how to host a private game it was because i couldn't as the bot would not allow me...but now i've been warned...thats not going to happen again

lol if for some reason you cant spell the guys name use !open .. I had that issue once cause it was like l)4rk ect. ect. and I spelt his name wrong like 3 times.. then ended up keeping him cause 1) I felt bad and 2) another slot opened up and he left after like 5 minutes -.- charma's a bitch lol...
Either way I think Hamm has learned his lesson ^^ lol its safe to assume he just didnt think he would get in trouble for taking over a game for the clan. That being said certain guidelines should be told to our Grunts.

it works with parts of the name... so you could have done "!kick 4rk" and it would have worked....Eulogy wrote:lol if for some reason you cant spell the guys name use !open .. I had that issue once cause it was like l)4rk ect. ect. and I spelt his name wrong like 3 times..
the bot only allows one game in the lobby at a time...hammondo wrote:s3rius wrote:Ouch, you got busted hamm

there is many ways you soulc have dealt with it:
1- be patient... wait for enough players to join the game and start it by itself
2- be less patient... do something like "!autostart 5" making it require less players to start the game
3- be somewhat of an ass... !unhost it

Didn't work. I used the last half of his name and he stayed there so I just gave up.
I also tried player color and number.. neither of them worked either lol

Afaik you have to use s.th. like "!kick *4rk" to kick a player with '4rk' as the last part of his name.

they would be auto kicked if they are spoofers by the GHost system. if they arent then either you dont have the latest bot, or you've ssly f*d something up while playing around with the coding.
Misho is right, you need common sense more than a set of rules for this thing.
- if its a public autohosted game then just either leave it, start it, unhost it or join it lol.
- if you want a game for the clan or your friends use the priv command.
- if you want a game for the clan or your friends and you dont have enough people to have a full house, then host a public game, but NOT under the autohost games. use something like [Dawn Of The Dead!!!] or something as gn (or be creative lol).
yeah, just dont use the autohosted games as clan games, simple as that. if you want your own game then whisper the bot and get it to host a seperate game for you.

I agree with using common sence but without any rules then your not doing anything wrong if you just boot everybody out of the game in the first place now are you. lol

i totally agree with your common sense....Big_Red wrote:rules made by common sense then, you dont kick everyone out of game lol
neways misho needs to set them down cause its his bot
but i got no idea what to say as rules....
-the bot is not a game, it doesn't take jokes, only commands.... any joke command is a stupid command
-be nice to people, i'm offering a public service to both the clan and every WC3 player that joins my games... not having admin doesn't make them less important than you
-autohosted games aren't your personal playground... if you want to have only your friends in a game, WTF ae you doing in there? make your goddamned game before showing that you're an asshole and kick everyone that isn't in your list...
-respect the others, you're not god... being an admin give you power... don't make me regret giving you admin... remember that every single command you give to the bot IS LOGGED and will reflect on your and the other admin's reputation...
-be strict on yourself, i'm much more strict on myself than i am with others... and many of you have seen how i can easily be pissed off by other's behaviour...
how's that for rules? to me, it's only simple common sense...

or worse: track you down as the next target of a serial killer
...it's easy to find out I'm a Canadian male for instance, and from my post in the welcome thread he could get enough information to reduce the potential targets to only a few hundred persons :/
moral of the story: don't piss out psychopaths
