I'm not really part of the Atari and Commodre generation but a friend of mine has a NES that we still play sometimes. I've been playing Doom since I was 4 and I also had the episode 1 for Duke Nukem 1 and some of the Commander Keens and other classic ID softwares games. I'm still quite loyal to ID and I've played pretty much all Quakes, Dooms and Enemy Territories (and I'm still playing ET:QW) Now I'm waiting the release of Rage and after that Doom 4. Oh, and from Blizzards classics I have a copy of Warcraft 2 & Beyond the Dark Portal and Diablo 2 (which I also still play sometimes, while waiting for Diablo 3)

What's so funny about win95?
I know one person who still thinks 95 is the best windows, but just lacks some power now. Also windows 3.1 is something you should laugh at, we still have a computer using that. That's the one with the Commander Keens btw. Got them with the comp when we bought it

Kinda hard to define a classic don't you think? The oldest windows I've used is 3.1, but my father told me about a black and white windows they had sometime during the stone age. I guess from his point of view 95 would be rather advanced
I think Deus Ex, for example, is a classic, but it's based on the Unreal engine, and thus not all that old.

Actually CNC:1 was released for MSDOS, not Windows.
Later Westwood made a Gold Edition, which was suited for Windows 95.
Edit: And the unreal engine was made in 1998.

Yeah unreal engine's over ten years old, but come on! It's not about how old it is but how advanced it is. Sure modern engines can do much better, but compared to some really old engines and games, it's rather modern.
Also, the win3.1 comp we still have is mostly used via MSDOS cause there's some problems with running exes with the 3.1 So I too had to pretty much get used to using DOS. Then there was the good old win95 comp, which also still works, but the win98 comp we got after that is now completly useless. The last comp my father got uses XP, but later I bought for myself this vista laptop. So I didn't ever get to use win2000 and ME, though I've been told there I didn't miss much.
I still play some old DOS games, I that I used to love, with the DOSbox emulator. I recommend it for all who grew up with DOS. Also there's emulators for most of the old consoles and other systems.

thinking about classics, i got myself a WII emulator to play the gamecube version of Ikaruga !!!
i always wanted to play this game, it looked so great and fun to play... and i played it to death today.. finished it on easy.. it's so damned hard! especially with the keyboard and slowdowns of the gamecube (it's not my computer, i still got processing power left to spare) making the game easier (running at half the speed when there is lots of action)...
now i'd like to play it arcade-style.. like the youtube stuff you see, moving much faster and more precisely than the version i played...

Well couldn't you just get Wii and the game? Wii's not even that expensive. And are those youtube vids about playing with emulator or with thte actual console?

i don't want to buy a wii just for one game... especially since i can't really play it in my physical condition (tennis elbow that doesn't want to heal)... and the game is at least 50$ on ebay because it's rare...Lettijeesus wrote:Well couldn't you just get Wii and the game? so paying that much to play a single game is... too much...
the youtube vids are probably all from the console or arcade versions... as the emulator is quite recent (and only has a couple of games that works on it)...

yeah... at 100yen a continue... it cost him like 600-700 yen for that boss...
i wouldn't pay 6-7$ to play like that... not counting all the hours he played it before to know the patterns and stuff... it must be a fortune!
