Is there any old games that you used to play that you can really call a "Classic"
For me I sure have some old gaming memories.
First and the oldest one is probably:
Lode Runner 1 for mac (Black and White FTW)
Warcraft 2 & The dark portal. Must have played this one I dont know how many hours.
Quake 3 arena: Seriously this game is probably the only fps game I have complete on hardest difficulty.
Lords of the Realm 2: This was one of my favourite strategy games. Though I didn't really know english so good (If at all xD) so my dad had to explain everything all the time but eventually I learnd how to play.
Tux Racing: Mmm a classic for my linux I don't know where I got from. I can't belive how many bugs me and my friend found. This was pure entertainment.
Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall: I just though this game was soo cool and good looking though I didn't understand much but me and my brother tried to get out of the tutorial dungeon for weeks.
Probably a lot more but I can't think of more now. It will be fun to hear your classics.

Lost Vikings and Warcraft I... ooohhh brings back old memories.
Once I was allowed to play WC1 when I was alone in my brother's room. The orcish sounds and the gore-ish graphics managed to scare my pants off (Well, I was very very young at that time.. )
Hmm.. what else..
Rent a Hero was pretty cool..
And there was a Star Wars game.. something like SW: Rebels. That was my first game I've played with a joystick.
Oh, and not to forget: Resident evil 1 and 2 - I've always watched my brother when he played that. It's frigging scary when you're like 7 years old :p (maybe that's the cause of my affection towards zombies? -)
And there was this playstation games. Doom I and some other game which was kinda like it. Maybe Wolfenstein.. don't remember the name.
And maybe Command&Conquer: Tiberian Dawn. Well, that's not too classic for me, because I played it relatively late - still great.
Oooh and The Black Eye together with expansion packs. Crappy graphics but uber cool and frigging hard ^^

Classics... oh man, I know one awesome game that we used to play a lot, but we are still searching for the name of that game. We played it on my first computer (50Mhz, lol) and it came on a 3.5'' floppy disk (yes, such things REALLY existed!). It was so awesome for that time because it was a two player coop, 2-D shooter. We ran through a dark labyrinth with enemies everywhere (one of the strongest ones looked like a red teddy-bear with a gun) and you could pick up different weapons...
Oh, and there was a Metroid-like game for the original NES that we played a lot as well.
hm... and later, classics were games like Age of Empires, where i made many maps for. Crimson Skies was quite funny as well as I can remember, but i missed the whole warcraft series before WCIII ^^

lol 3.5" floppies... that was a new tech to me... i used a lot of 5" floppies when i was a kid and saw a couple of 8" ones too, but never used them... also my dad had a lot of punch cards, we used them as notepads, for like 10 years... he had like a ton of them ^_^Sunny_D wrote:Classics... oh man, I know one awesome game that we used to play a lot, but we are still searching for the name of that game. I still remember how happy we were when we upgraded our hard drive: from a 40 mb to a 100mb one! we were sure that we would never be able to fill such a big hard drive! LOL
as for my classics, Tyrian is my best choice: i had it for our 486 and i've played it for about 15 to 20 years and i still love it!
Fallout and Fallout 2 are two great games, always great to replay them as they are very nice and aged pretty well
Princess Maker 2 is another "classic" for me... games with some degree of porn is always nice ^_^ and that game took a lot to get that small reward
Leisure Suit Larry was also a real classic, not the remake that you use the mouse, the real one where every action except movement was typed... it was an extremely hard game for 2 kids(me and my brother) that weren't really good in english and really wanted to get some of the "adult" action... even if you never see a single genital in the whole game and that it's extremely pixelated ^_^
yes i'm a pervert and i assume it very well

Hmm, Fallout 1 & 2... though my cd got so many scratches from overuse that its really unreadable atm xD
Total war, especially shogun and medieval I (medieval 2 was too have for my pc xD)
Command & Conquer... i played every game under that title but for classics it would be tiberian sun and red alert 2
Deungeon Keeper 1 & 2
The longest journey
Age of Empires (first part was best xD)
Gorky 17... so much time was passing while i was trying to survive in this destroyed old postnuclear town
Lords of the realm... i guess that was the title for that game... on of very first games i played, and one of best country-simulator strategy i ever played (so freakin hard to build a castle there xD)

Hmmm only this year I've played like 20 games of Lords of the realm 1 and like 30 lords of the realm 2 games. Sure they're old but it's still the best turnbased strategy game EVER.Moozgu wrote:

Crysis without good graphics wouldn't be no Crysis anymoreMoozgu wrote:"is graphic so needed in games?"
Nowadays graphic is a very important criterion. But all the great classics show that a game doesn't necessary need it, no.
Re: Classics

Graphics means SHIT. It's the gameplay that matters. I mean look at at Lords of the realm 1 and 2. They both own. And then Lords of the realm 3, they implemented 3d and woups It sucks.

But unfortunately s3rius is right, graphic does still matter a lot, especially when you are releasing first data about that game. The first impression has to be awesome. That applies mainly for shooters and rpg games though, in my opinion.
Now that the graphics are already excellent these days, I'd prefer to see the developers would put much more ressources now into the gameplay, the story etc... I'm just fine with the graphics, time to focus other priorities if you ask me.

I really agree with you. The graphics we have these days are more than enough. Indeed now focus to make a good game instead of a good-looking game.

Well, like for me there are two kinds of games, good games, and games which try to make everything with just graphics... i mean, who the hell needs better and better graphics? present games already look like pwning-everything-mummy-this-is-so-real so why still focusing on it instead of adding some better story line or more&better mysteries/hidden quests to solve? why not adding some more units in strategies and some new enviroitment to use in them?

No one needs better graphics, but it lures the masses.
Producing a game with great graphics has a lot of advantages for the developers. They can sell their engine or re-use it in other games without wasting any more money. And for a lot of people graphics make up for weak story.
But at least most of the really good looking games have decent to great playability, too. Crysis, Splinter Cell DA, QuakeVI IV, Bioshock, Company of Heroes; all great games which kept me busy for quite some time :p
Just Assassin's Creed was a disappointment. Except of good graphics and the cool climbing it wasn't very good.

HoMM, yesh! v2 was the best of them though, I expected more new features for 4, in my eyes they were glued to much on the forerunners... =/
Did someone play the normal Might and Magic games? I can't remember what of them I have actually played, think 5, but it was quite a good game IMO.
