A few questions
Tue 25 Dec 2007, 12:33
Hi there, me and some friends have just started playing Dawn of the Dead 5.2 Full over LAN. We're currently at lvl 30-35 but we still can't seem to get any further then wave 4.
I think our problem is the base we build with the engineer. Untill now we've been in one of the buildings on the map and we just blocked the entrance with many barricades. But on this forum I've seen a screenshot of some guys in a base in the middle of the map, on the streets. Can someone tell me where to build the base and how to build it properly?
Another thing is that we never used turrets because we where afraid the boss at the end of the next wave would kill it anyways since the shooting turrets will lure him in. I've read about some good techniques for luring the boss out of the base, would someone mind showing or explaining it?
Thanks in advance ^^

Yeah I prefere to have my base in the pretty much the middle of the map, I think that there is a screenshoot somewhere. If you build right, the enemy will only come from 2 directions and the boss will always come from the south. And I think the screenshoot shows how I usually build my bases.
A good way to lure the boss out of the base is for the engineer to make a trail of barricades, which someone shoots down to low health. Since the Boss goes targets low health people/barricades first, he should go after them. Another way is to have everyone run out of the base when the boss comes and he will hopefully follow one of you.
Another thing I always think about when building a base is to have ATLEAST 2 ways out incase you get overrun/the boss breaks through/whatever.
Edit: After looking at the screenshoot in A short play guide, it shows how I build my bases. And I build turret to cover most of the left side, and since the boss rarely comes that far, since he comes from the south, they usually don't attract him. And one more thing, I always use the same base for all waves, dunno if you do that aswell.

Thanks a lot for your quick response ^^
I just finished a DotD, we got to wave 4 with 2x lvl 35.
Yeah, that's the same screenshot as I was talking about, although on that screenshot I can't quite see all the barricades you've build. Do you have any resent replays with you as an engineer? Since all other replays are down (1 is still downloadable but from an old version).

Well, the barricades i have build that you see on the screen is the ones worth seeing. I usually builda few ones a bit outside the base so I can see incoming enemies better, and that are the other white dots you see.
And if you play on the European server I might be able to play a game or two with you.

you really should play games on the net instead of only 2 persons in LAN... the games is very hard to beat without a good group at the beginning or a high level (like in the 100's) to survive...
you need damage dealers to keep the barricades from being crushed by the enemies... you need barricades to keep the damage dealers from being reached by the enemies...

Ohhh, so it was only you and a friend that played? Yeah, that makes it much harder no matter your level.

Yeah, I think I can come and play on europe.
Maybe you can check out this replay I just made:
www.speedyshare.com/308882393.html
Bas just started, that's why he was lvl 5.
We made a mistake at the last boss, we thought he wouldn't make a nuke and we thought the next wave would already begin.

Ah, I'm sorry, I was in a lan game again so I didn't read your reply.
We got to wave 10 now with the 3 of us, our new tactic seems to work.
I hope we'll play tomorow!

parad0x, Evil or anyone, if you play a match with a good engi/base again next time, you probably could save the replay and upload it somewhere to update the training-section here. =)
