Military Questions
Wed 02 Sep 2009, 05:58
[Colonels arrival]
I've asked a few people about his arrival in the hot-zone with just a few units and it isn't right S3rius.
In my view, the Colonel's a valuable tool of the military, they don't just drop him off like that. The perimeter should be secured by at-least 1/5 of a battalion or something.
[Other SRT team]
Assuming it stands for Search and Rescue Team, you know, the team under Madigans command. As for the question, why do they abandon us after we've rescued the civilians? I mean, they don't need a whole group to protect a few civilians heading back to base (presumed). They could have left them under the pilots care and help with those blasted mobs.
So far, that's about it..
Gilorean: Madigan ditched us... that basterd.

Actually i can speak from knowledge that a colonel will be sent in with a group of 5-10 hand picked members in cases of extreme importance and get shipped off to god knows where for peace keeping opperations in the canadian military so its not completely wrong. (highest ranking officer ever sent into a hot zone with 3 other guys was a lt. gen. a few years back to bosnia) ofcourse its completely differant but its the hand-picked elite respond team that is the idea i'm trying to get across
Madigans mission objective is only to search the city and secure it.. he kinda leaves us to it after he finds the civs but the helicopter used to blow up instead of just disapearing so the bastard got what was coming to him lol

Let's start with the dreaded however. We all know the Americans.. well you know, when it comes to military campaigns, they like to make it "big" and they're way different than the Canadians imo.
Anyways ..
Anyways ..

Well this is an extreme case I do believe.. besides the area im sure will be... "Sanitized" in the future.. Also it would be quite a pain to go back in and completely redo the entire map.. perhaps this would be for a new map

I dont think it'll be much of a trouble for S3rius to add a couple of spawns, lines and/or modify previous lines to fix this issue/suggestion if.. considered.

Well, I can hardly make Colonel White drop with a couple of platoons.. that would imbalance everything. Not only would I have to add a lot more zombie spawns, but all following missions need to have more zombies.
That would result in the "small" group of players having it relatively hard to move alone and to complete missions.
The reason why he only has so few men (in earlier versions he dropped together with 2 other platoons) simply is selective realism and game balance.
The Colonel's men have the best npc equipment in the game so far so I wouldn't call them privates, but if it's so important I can degrade him to a Captain.
I just can't take out the big bang hammer at this point and simply let the military swarm the area just because they've sent in a few high-ranked officers.
SRT stands for Special Reactions Team, by the way. Sgt. Madigan's team is the Beta platoon of the SRT. The players form the Alpha platoon.
The reason why Sgt Madigan leaves the battlefield is because I want the players to be on their own for a while. Having the Sergeant's team still on the field would mean they would help you with your missions or I'd have to make them die. Both ways aren't so bright.
In earlier versions there was no Madigan. You'd find a few surviving soldiers in the building the first civilians are in. They would stay with the civs until being evacuated. I introduced Madigan to make it easier for new players. They'd have a person to orientate on and who gives them cover.
I know that DotD's story isn't the greatest, that many things are strange or feel set-up. That is because I have tinkered around so much with missions and story that it isn't 100% coherrent, but I will stick with my current story plan or otherwise I'll never be done with it.

Kinda surprised that no one's brought up the fact that in a typical ZDC game we have a few generals running around in Alpha. Then again, I guess that would be a handicap seeing as how they'd all be senior citizens

lol well... 50 year old guy's who have made a career out of the Military are more physically fit than any of us lol xD 2 hours in a gym every day + regular training will do that for you =/ Regardless... who cares about the Colonel being dropped in? He isn't by himself might I remind you.. he's got the Alpha Company backing him up. lol so when you put everybody together its like 12-13 guys by the point where he comes in.. and after he comes in you get the LT. and like 5 other drops if you can make it to them so he isn't exactly being dropped in alone.. lol he just beats the rest of his people there xD
Not to mention from the way s3rius has made it sound we are only covering a single sector.. there are other SRT members all over the city just not in our area.

True. That's not the entire city. but rather a small sector. that 12-13 guys should be able to hold

yeah it's not like we arent used to seeing the helicopter randomly explode in mid-air and fall to the ground lol
Still I stick to the point that this is only a small area in San Fran. and that there are quite probably hundreds of other SRT members in other sections of the city.

My opinion isn't a really worthy one... but I'd just say leave it as is... The Colonel is fine in the setting he's in within the city.
The rank seems fine... I'd suggest leaving it and moving onto more important matters (whatever they are).
