Starcraft / Brood War

Oh my god! Why is it that nobody has brought up the Original (and great may I add) Starcraft and Ofcourse Brood War?!

I wanna know how many people actually played these games ^^ I was a faithful gamer on SC for atleast 5 years (on and off). Figured I might as well start up a thread and see if anybody else gamed on it and I mean anything... Melee, Zero Clutter, FMP, Use Map Settings, even Ladder when it was still around lol.. and if anybody still plays.

Tips or just share awesome stories with others... skies the limit I hope
In my oppinion this still is the greatest RTS game on the market.. much faster paced and takes a lot more Macro/Micro skills than other games... feedback please! +^^

lol i was a SC player... and i've been for quite a few years...

i have no idea how good i've become... but i know something: i've completely dissimated all my RL friends... even in a 2 vs 1, i got them killed by playing it safe ^_^ and that was last year... i don't know anyone in RL that can beat me at SC.. even if i don't really play anymore and i just took the challenge after they told me they played back in the days and that they knew they could kick my ass ^_^

i've played a lot of melee... team battles.. "modified money" maps...

I've never played it much on the competitive level. Only very few times, usually I play custom maps or 2on4's vs computers ^^
It's awesome bunkering down in one base (one of us usually gets bashed) as Toss and Terran and defend against 4 full loads of enemies

The site streams almost 500 matches (mostly SC and some WoW and WC3). Videos are commentated in English language.

guys... i think we want to go to Berkeley university..... to learn to play Starcraft! LOL

you guys should check that out! pro matches commented in english! it's much more interesting than the thousands of matches commented in korean!

i watched the 3 matches of Flash vs Bisu and it was frikking AMAZING!

i played SC mostly with guys at college and somtimes in lan , and a few time on the net when broodwar was released .
I installed it again some weeks ago , didnt played more than an hour , cause gfx are very very outdated

but its always fun to make rush with zerglings

And I have to say the English commentators now are making it so much more entertaining there is one game that is just way too clasic if you wanna check it out.. its Draco (a Protoss) vs Midas (a Terran) and the commentator is a guy who uses the screen name Tasteless... he is easily the funniest guy I've ever seen commentate and this game is full of his.. odd humor lol he definately makes watching the games much more enjoyable ^^

And.. I actually played Bisu ... Once =/ in WCG... I got my arse handed to me after about 12 minutes lol.. PvP got owned by zlots and goons.. sad day.

well the Tasteless guy who commented on Draco vs Midas is the same that is commenting on gomtv... he's damned nice to listen to ^_^

i just watched that game, this is a ping ping game! the balance of the match was going from one side to another so many times, it was great!
sadly, i watched it on youtube and the quality was awful... i couldn't even see much of the action on the minimap because of the low resolution...

You played competitively? that's great! i never really got into it, mostly because when the game was out i didn't have a computer of my own, back in the days... and now i wouldn't dare doing it, it's been so long and i'm more into WC3's Custom Games that makes you micro a single unit... i haven't been macroing anything for YEARS!

But still.. i don't know anyone in RL that could win against me... no matter how rusty i could be

Hahaha yeah Mish so true... Very easy to brag about when your friends actually play it =p. Yeah my Trainer for SC told me about Tasteless being a new Commentator on GOMtv.. but my comp isnt very good and I've never been able to check out any of the matches... when sc2 comes out I'll tell ya what... we will have to play a few rounds on the new maps may the best man win! lol

Well they said the old maps are gona make it in sc2 so the most popular will probably remain LT and BGH.

Hmm... I'm not sure... I'm thinking Blizzard will bring those maps this is true.. but I think the melee crowd will be looking for some of the more common ICC // WCG type maps..
Python, Longinus, Luna, Blue Storm II, Loki, and stuff like that.. but I'm sure the old favorites like you mentioned will still be included

im playing it at the moment, but not so very often! nice game till now

StarCraft is still one of my favourite games of all time though I don't play much anymore..Still one of the best AI's ever.. well most of the time

Most of the time.. riiight. Like the times when you send a SCV early game to completely mess them up? Or the times they bug and don't build anything?

I have a theory though about the bot's that don't build anything They are just feeding resources to the other bots.. if you just leave the feeder bot alone the other bots attack you more ferociously but if you kill it off the other bots don't seem to attack as hard

I always had problem with the money maps...
The Damn AI's try to use a Vespene Geyser that doesnt work, but sends all of its SCV's to try to mine from it.

Starcraft UMS was the best. I got tired of playing boring old melee after awhile. SC UMS maps were real awesome especially WW3 if anyone has played that.

Death you refering to the one vs Soviet Union/China where you have like 6 allies and the comps start raping face in like 5 minutes? lol Took me such a long time to find people good enough to even TRY beating that xD Hard mode even had a story with the game was so epic

Haha yeah I am. I never beat hard mode, even with experienced players. It's so fricken hard you don't get upgrades and your special units do no damage at all without upgrades. I've only beaten easy many times but it took a long while before I beat it, even the first time. We should play together one day Omni.

I'd play along as well =/ but i've never played the map

fuck i playd over 10 000 games on bnet. (that includes wins+loses)
