Your Vista version is a rather bad choice for this.
If I'm not mistaken both the graphics card and the CPU have an x86 design. Using Vista Home (which is only x64) is a waste of money. It'll even slow your computer down, because the 4GB ram is too much for a non-64 bit system to handle.
I recommend upgrading to Vista Ultimate (the only x84 version that is available till now) and you can squeeze the last byte of power out of that machine. When I bought my PC (also 4GB ram) my advisor told me that the difference in performance between Ultimate and any other version can be up to 20%.
Nevertheless a fine piece of hardware that you'll get there. Have fun with it^^

Why get a highpreformance laptop when you can get a desktop for like half the price though?

I employ you to reconsider. Cuz you are WRONG. I've asked my "advisor" and the reseller and they both say that it's 32 bit system. So my GOOD sir, you are wrong.
Because, then I would need to buy 2 computers since I change place every weekend. So a laptop is the ideal choice.Parad0x wrote:Why get a highpreformance laptop when you can get a desktop for like half the price though?

Ur right with Ultimate being faster than the Home Editions. But every version of Vista (Home Basic - Enterprise) is also available in x86-32. Btw every Windows OS is x86, its just x86-16, x86-32 or x86-64 (also called x64) .
And... What u mean with x86 graphics card design... Only thing important is to have x86 or x64 drivers.
If u use 4 Gb RAM in a 32 bit system, u will probably have an effective size of 3,2 - 3,5 Gb. Better choice would be 2 x 1 Gb + 2 x 512 Mb. Saves money and u still use Dualchannel.

Well, the CPU is 64 bit-able for sure. And I find it a bit confusing why there are 64 bit drivers for the 8600m if it wasn't 64 bit-able, also..
@Skavenslayer:
Few minor things incorrect in my elaboration *cough*

I don't "Loose" anything on getting 4gb. And then it's ready to be upgraded to 64 in the future.Skavenslayer wrote:If u use 4 Gb RAM in a 32 bit system, u will probably have an effective size of 3,2 - 3,5 Gb. Better choice would be 2 x 1 Gb + 2 x 512 Mb. Saves money and u still use Dualchannel.
And anyway it's already too late since I've pretty much ordered it. And also it's a laptop so it's 2, slots not 4

The new bit system is still kinda pointless. Since all programs still run in 32bits. So you will have pretty much no use of hardware that has more than 32 bits....for now
p.s nice pc you orderd

Happy thread-hijacking! But it was already a fitting one as I have now bought me one as well. Had to plunder my account but in a few days my new comp will arrive. Overall not that good as yours, Lis, but almost. Except the graphic card (512 dedicated).
I hope the shop is calling tomorrow already that I can pick it up. But I think I'll stay with XP a while instead of using Vista... having also only 2k RAM.
+gg
I'm already searching for another nice game to mod on again... besides WCIII. ^_^

Yea, I can finally have some DotD fights again... lol, as level 1 though. I don't think I find my old lvl140 code again...
+wrong
SC2... what are the latest info about the release by the way? Didn't check for quite some time... But I probably have a look on the Oblivion editor meanwhile, or Warhammer maybe. But I guess I'll just play a little during the next days - CS:S, Warcraft III and some others are waiting already.

Don't worry about your code - remember to whom you're talking to
When I'm officially back from school I can cook you a fresh code, since I trust you to be a 140er ^^ (I believe we never played together, did we)
There's some info about Zerg, but no official release date yet. Though there was a closed beta test a while ago and from some people I got to know that it's likely that we can lay our hands upon an open beta soon.

Of course we did. This dark oblivion shouts for merciless punishment! But thanks for the code though.
Well, but would have been a wonder if blizzard announced a release already, hah. But i'll keep an eye on the public beta.

lol, I'm pretty sure we did. Long time ago of course...
Impressive graphic card, Asgard. Double power needs double... power. With Vista and a special mainboard you can buy another one and merge both to a quad-card.
