Entirely new forum from scratch??

By the way...Why don't we use VBulletin, they are so much more better

the problem with VBulletin would probably be that we have to make a new forum, don't we? Well, in this case we'd lose everything that Sunny has created alreeady.
Also, I don't find this forum too bad, can't say this in terms of modability, though.

I think there are ways to intergrate accounts, etc etc. To Vbulletin but sure this is perfectly fine just thought it's safer with bulletin

its not possible to move contents from here to vbulletin, as we won't get access to the forum database. all i could take over would be my graphics... and probably some copy/pasted topics and nothing more... we would have to get a new url and an entirely new forum... we'd loose all our stats and accounts as well of course...

well, i'm not sure, on the one side we have established a lot of topics and all, but on the other side it would give us several advantages. hm... really difficult - we would have to build it from scratch, remember that... but i would like to hear many arguments pro or contra.

someone knows a good vbulletin forum host? probably with own webspace? i'll inform me about the possibilities as detailed as possible... but i think we should make a decision within a week if possible. for several reasons...

So what are the disadvantages / advantages from moving to vBulletin?

Advantages:

- More flexibility in forum design i think (i must do further research on this point)
- Better security as e.g. i'm here not the original founder and therefor have not access to some features.
- possibly have our own webspace/ftp

Disadvantages:

- We would loose all our accounts and profiles that have been created so far
- we would loose all our forum stats and topsites stats
- we would loose google and yahoo presence
- mucho work with transfering data and setup the style sheets again...
- loose our kinda well-known domain name
?

discuss. if you have any insider-knowledge of a vbulletin board, provide me with as much info about possibilities as possible. im not going to make a hasty decision, but it would be better if we find a quick solution.

I kinda like how the forum is... and i don't think that it would be good to move away from being the first page when you look for DOTD in google.... but it's what i think...

yep, yep... thats what bugs me as well big time. basically we would start up unknown... its risky. and i dont want to put in all the necessary efforts without being 100% sure this would be a MAJOR improvement to us...

though my biggest reason for moving are some security gaps... and those will be significant once we raise our popularity...

EDIT: Just wanted to mention it. if someone thinks our forum really needs something additional - a feature or whatever, feel free to post a suggestion here and i will see if that is possible.

Well, I don't understand much from these things but i like the forum like it is now.

Yeah I like it as it is now. That other site has to be loads better for it to be worth moving.

excellent! vbulletin could probably not offer that much more features for users. though, there is still an issue remaining that makes me consider...

anyway, if i look at the poll, you all prefer to stay! and so we do then.

actually, if you search for "dotd wc3" or "dotd warcraft" you both get this page as the first result

well "dotd wc3" second result is our forum, so it's all fine to me ^_^

Well yeah when you name the pros and cons I guess I'll say lets stay it's not worth losing all that.
