wc3 map dotd 5.2 - code problem
Mon 28 May 2007, 20:36
hi,
i play the map dotd 5.2 for wc3 and all coed i get by typing "-save" work fine, but sometimes new players have the problem, that their code is invalid. after some questions i've found out that they always have a code of 6-7 letters (xxxxxx-xxxxxxx), the code should be 7-7 (xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx). do u have an idea of a solution?

no real solution... but we made the experience that very often it has to do with the players names - or with some special characters within their name... some names seem to be susceptible to invalid codes. if they keep getting invalids its recommend that they create a new account with a name as short and easy as possible... afaik, there is no other solution to this bug... =/

I know quite a bit about the save/load of dotd. Yea there is no solution since the parser which checks the name for special characters is crap. I guess it often happens whith certain combinations of special characters, not sure though.
I know that topic is already a few days old, but maybe somebody was interested in that^^ btw the original save system was made in GUI, not in JASS

Regarding this problem, my friend has tried many differrent names, such as Daniel, Danny, danz, [Daniel], but the same old problem keeps bugging him and he can't save, and its pissing him off, so is there any names that can surely save a valid code?

Hmm.. the only thing that is similar is the combination "Dan" Try something diffrent. If the problem still consists, I recomend getting 5.3

Hell, you asked in 3 posts and at the shoutbox.
Please only post once next time. You won't be overlooked.
The code engine in 5.3 is the same as in 5.2, so that won't change anything.
Is your friend using a name spoofer? Or does he use a colorized name? Both could cause an invalid code.
Also, you said he can't save. Do you mean he doesn't get a code, or he get's a code, but it doesn't load?
EDIT: I've tested saving/loading with the name "Danny" and it worked without any problems.
If you're using a very old version of WC3 it might cause that problem, also.

Nope, he uses 1.21b warcraft, no name spoofer, no coloured names and he has tried many other names as well, like numbers etc..., and sorry about the posts as well. His can save, just that his code always fails to load.

Could you ask him to give me one of that codes, that don't work?
I can try to disassemble it and check what is wrong.

i tried in 5.2, this was the code:
LPD33K-SVD7IND
hope it'll help you!

hi,
the problem is not the "-", but the fact that i always obtain a code with 6-7 letters/numbers instead of 7-7 +sad
so, as s3rius asked, i give some codes... ^^

This may sound silly but it goes with all code save games on WARCRAFT lll
People cant tell the Difference between there 'I' 'i' or I and l. The font in the game can be quite confusing but this is a real problem.
Stupid but true.

Indeed. But people who use a little brain power will easily uncover their real code.
First, numbers and letters are colored differently.
Second, the code isn't case-sensitive, that means all letters will be upper case. That makes the discrimination of l (lower L) and I (upper i) and similar futile.
I sometimes can't believe that people are too stupid to notice a few simply rules, even if they're even lvl 40+. And in games like NotD:AM it's even easier (there is lower/upper case, but everything is colored in a different color and the save system works 100%)

That is where the problem lies then, the _ in your name will give you an invalid code.

After some testing I noticed that codes will not work if the user's name starts or ends with a sign (like _ or -). It is ok to have a sign somewhere in the middle of the name.
Furthermore, names need at least 3 letters in them. So "A_A" or similar names won't work, too.
