I got pissed off again

with people spamming !votekick just for fun on themselves
so i changed the trigger, it is now $
so every command uses $ instead of !

people who try to have fun with it will be dealt with a kick from me, people who come back into the game after that will be banned by me

i'm tired of people using the bot to have fun, you're supposed to have fun playing the game, not use the bot to have fun...
if you're not happy, fuck off, i'm guetting tired of people never listening...

swap has been illegal for a while now.. and there is still people using it... you guys just don't want to listen...
i'm thinking of banning the people who use swap now... there was a time where i wanted to unrestrict it, because i thought you guys could have the maturity of not using some commands, but i've been proven wrong every single time i looked at my logs... you guys complain so much that the bot got too much rules and that i should give you back swap.... well SHOW ME YOU CAN FOLLOW RULES and i might listen to you someday...

The thing is, it's more of an idea of principle than anything else. Mish is using the bot as a public service, and doesn't want to see it abused. It's just like if the police department began turning on their sirens just to get through a crowded street: I dont think many people would appreciate it. Age really has nothing to do with it- we all have different standards, and there are people a lot older than 29 who abide by these. He doesnt HAVE to give us the bot, and if it's his, he can make whatever rules he pleases.

29? lol.. the date of birth is required in the forums... so i put a random date.... nope i'm not 29

so... you don't mind spammers, admins who kick for no reason, teamkillers, admins who ban for no reason, people who votekick for no reason, people who swap repeatedly just because they can, people who unhost games just because they can, people who spoof someone else's username to use their codes, people who ping multiple times just because they're ignorant, people who open and close the slots just because they think it refreshes bot games?

so yeah.... i've kicked, banned and removed admins for those reasons... people are immature... they like power... they don't listen to rules...

so i have to watch over my things and try to keep the games as clean as possible....

you got your own bot? good for you! how are your admins acting? are they having fun in the lobby? are they kicking people for no reason? are they banning people for no reason?

it's not about damaging the bot itself, it's damaging the reputation of the bot and the clan... if we're known as assholes that will kick you out for no reason other than looking at them in a weird way, why would people come and play our games?

yeah.. i could simply remove everyone's admin and not monitor it ever, not take comments, suggestions and if there is a problem simply say: "i don't care, go fuck yourself"

instead, i've put a lot of time setting it up (and helping many people do the same) and making sure it's run the way i want it to...

Ive noticed that alot of clan zdc/zkc members that when they join a pub game and the lobbies almost full with zdc/zkcers they always votekick the dlers or nubs cuz they wanna make a public priv. Alot of admins always votekick nubs in your lobby bcuz they cant "catch up" with the bot to make a priv Bcuz ur bot is "too quick" for them.
Bassically every1 shuld have a right to play .

Don't have much to say that's not already been said other than check the forums and abide by the rules it's not hard most of us seem to do just fine

I strongly agree with Mish. This should not be tolerated! Not only is it anti social missbehavior, but it also violates the bot rules.

Warning -> Loss of admin rights -> Ban.

I must say, there's a good point made in this thread.

If you're abusing the system of the volunteer donated bot, you should get the warning/loss of admin/ban (accordingly). It's only fair to others.

Also, something to point out to anyone who would complain about this policy, I would remind them that it's an online game, with clan members running their volunteered bot... They have no rights in the first place, so they can basically just shut up about it.

I'm new to this community, but I have to say I'm impressed by the maturity and rationale of logic in people here. I've been in several other communities for WC3 who can't handle themselves without going into a personal argument over something trivial, which isn't only disappointing, but wholly unprofessional and unsportsman-like, considering it's just over a bloody video game...

Anyway, that's my rant for this morning. Thank you for reading.

As safer, i see it all the other way around. I think this is a complete over reaction. I've been part of lots of comunities, and been admin of them. I know how ppl are. I know how ppl react. And above all, i know how an admin should treat their ppl. Because communities arent about admins, are about their members. I think that u fail on that.

Even when u are right about those "events" (like the votekick issue, which i participated and later apologized on channel)... u are a complete disaster on how to make ppl understand ur point and moreover, give an example.

But oh well... what matter what we say or dont. Or what we think. You rule "your kingdom" and thats it, dont u? At least u explained like that yesterday. "your kingdom, your shit, every1 else fuck off".

I think you ought to speak your mind on how you feel, as long as you're not disrespectful, and not be banned. But then again, it is his bot, and no one else can tell him how to use it. I hope you're not banned, personally.

I agree it's about the members... but the members can't enjoy themselves if the admins abuse their authority and access of the bots.

I do think, however, that some areas of the ban policy by Mishotaki could use a little toning down, lest he end up banning all potential new members from joining his games, thus turning off members from the community...

I'll comment more on these specific instances in the appropriate thread.

But if you become overly aggressive, to put it mildly, you alienate others, and it works against what you would have wanted to achieve in the first place, which is (from how I understand it) making the maps your host available for people to play without a lot of muss and fuss. If you lose your cool, you undermine that ideal, and everyone loses.

My suggestion to you, sir, as well as any other bot hoster who has these problems and/or would like to avoid these issues in future, would be to limit the amount of admins you assign and only allow admin powers to those whom you really trust and know you won't have a problem keeping in line and would respect your wishes and carry them out.

Those are just my thoughts with all due respect.

Little history, just for knowing's sake :

I think I joined in the early stages of Mish's original bot. He was pretty lax with the rules, nothing was HIGHLY enforced, etc. Then, some less than desirable business with two former members ensued, which REALLY got the shit rolling. Mish cracked down hard, people were pissed at some rules (particularly the 'swap' feature, which, by the way, is the ability to change one's position, red, blue, pink, etc, with a command in the lobby). However, everything died down, as these things do, until, I guess within the past few days, the shit hit the fan again. Mish is once again cracking down, and I for one dont disagree. If that means banning a player or three from the administration, well, I doubt there will be a shortage of others who could take up the javelein.

Mish has a fairly open mind, and is a decent guy to chill with. He just holds his admins in a higher authority, and will therefore crack down if need be.

Thanks for the info, sir. It's good to know. I think he runs things well, from what I'm seeing. It's unfortunate that certain people would disrespect the work he does, as well as others, to keep things moving.

I agree. Banning some children from the administration only makes sense. I just typed out my first impressions at a glance. I don't mean any offence. Just sharing my views and hopefully help in some way.

If the problem was the votekick amongst all users, and there were (is) a way to remove votekick all together, I'd be all for it. In my personal opinion a bot is put in place for a convenient way to find/host games, and nothing more. The only commands you really need would be !priv ____ or !pub ____.

dont want to get out of the focus of the thread but.... why using the swap command (SPECIALLY FOR RED SPOT) wouldn't be allowed by an admin? (if its an admin based command).

I've had at least 5% of the games ive played with first timers, that 7 players wanted to play X mode (like normal or nightmare)...but since he was a first timer and had no idea of what was going on, and didnt want to give red spot because he think he is cooler there...he picked hell.

Then we wasted a full house game, lots of minutes, and everyone gets pissed off.

Only some own experience... if its abused only because "X admin" wanted "x colour [rather than red]" , then that would be completely wrong and i would understand it.

That's been suggested to me multiple times, it's a thing that would make everything work out more easily, but i always aspire to more...

in theory, the more people who got admin, the better... the more people can regulate games so that the "bad people" get filtered out and decisive action could be brought to the game without people having to fight over a lengty period of time against a single individual that ruins the game for everyone... it's in that line of thought that i made the bot admin available to any clanny that had over 4500xp in the first place....

after many incidents with admins not really knowing what to do that i braught the first guidelines... wich helped a little... then i found out widespread improper usage, so i fought the people who i already gave guidelines with some more definite rules... with definite consequences....

right now, anyone who aspire to be an admin have to sign that they read and understood the guidelines, rules and commands of the bot... if i see someone not having a clue what they are doing, i make sure they read it back and get in line or lose the priviledge...

the problem is that i let my bot receive public commands too... those are not very numerous commands, but since i can't regulate every single game, it can be prone to exploiting those commands and using them to play "waiting games".... since the default prefix for a command is "!", it is fairly easy for people with basic knowledge of the bot to use those commands for the removal of undesirable players.... but it's also prone to those "boredom attacks"....

simply changing the prefix to the commands allows people who know to have more control, people who may have knowledge of the rules and guidelines that i've enforced.... i hope that someday i won't have to turn off the public commands completely to counter those people who wants to use the bot to "have fun"....

interestingly, it's two times easier to stop public commands from being sent to the bot than changing the prefix to the commands....

i can't really put rules for votekick as it is a public command... anyone and everyone can use it... you just have to know how to do it...

sadly, the most votekicks i've seen has been from admins who are scared of me... i've seen them be rude to the red player to be able to take control of the game and end up swearing at him and votekicking him...

making it admin only would defeat the purpose of being able to kick someone with the majority of the players... as any admin can simply kick the person without a vote, he should have no use of the votekick command...

I know that i pissed off a lot of people with it... but i made it totally temporary in my mind, it was until i would see no more people straying from my rules, having people understand and follow them... i would totally removed that part from the rules....

But as today... there has not been a single log that i have that is exempt from admins using the "illegal" swap command...

if people cannot stop themselves from using a command, how should i expect the same people to have that command restricted to a single slot exchange?

really... if you can't expect that 15 years old kid to not shoot his bran new gun at anything, can you expect him to use it only in an emergency situation against a burglar? should you spend a lot of time to make him know how to handle it and teach him strictly that the gun is not to ever be used to parade or just for fun, it's a lethal weapon.... or should you simply lock it away double-bolted in a safe with fingerprint, retinal scanner, voice recognition and body temperature checker so that if there is a robber, you'll never ever reach that gun in time to protect yourself or your family?

like the reserved slots, if i remove something, i remove it for everyone, not just one person.... if i remove everyone's ability to swap, i'm making sure i'll never be able to use it myself, if i would ever have to, in any situation that might occur...

so yeah... cry more about it... i'm not restoring it... you guys have proven to me that you can't handle one "blocked" command...

What's the problem with not allowing the !swap command? It doesn't seem unreasonable to me, really... Just go with it. Imagine if there was no such command... or you weren't able to use it (for example, a non bot game).

I think people should just be happy with what there is, honestly...

Anyway, thanks for your post, sir. It cleared some things up. I wish you luck in keeping the games clean and fun. =)

i got my own system for respect:
-everybody starts with a positive score
-spamming will make you lose a shitload of points
-spamming commands will make you lose more than a shitload of points
-spammind commands as a joke will make me lose any respect i may have for that person
-teamkilling earns respect points, as i respect their decision of never coming into my games ever again (that's a negative for them btw)

there is many other instances where people can lose respect points... it might not make sense to you, but it makes sense to me...

#3- english is not my native language either... i can choose my words much more carefully in french than in english... making sure that i can be understood, if the person is literrate enough to decrypt it...

respect is like trust: it's way easier to lose it than to earn it...

as i said before: people say i'm an angry person because when i come on b.net, it's usually to dig out the banhammer... and i was there with the banhammer... and i hit as hard as i could without hurting anyone that i didn't want to hurt...

Still... everybody can make a mistake...and what it makes a person wise and reflexive its the way they confront that mistake... and i repeat, I confront it and I apologized.

yeah apoligising earns some points back... but way less than the act of doing what you needed to apologise for in the first place...

as i said: i'm hardheaded.... i put everyone who participated in the votekick spamming together because... they participated TOGETHER in there... knowingly spamming my bot without shame until you are hit by the banhammer is not something to be proud of... why should i apologise for hurting you with it?

@my edited reply: as you see, it's a multi-part post that i made in 3 parts replying to multiple persons inside one post... it took me a while to write it... you just happened to see the post before it was finished, you think i changed something.... i only added the story of the banned swap function... i have received enough harsful comments about it, yours is just another drop in the ocean, you can go cry with the others now, insulting me will not earn you any points about it... the story isn't only for you but it's an explanation for everyone who wonders why i haven't restored it because of their posts/comments/PMs/whispers/talks to me about it...
