Getting started with Garena Empty Getting started with Garena

Sat 11 Apr 2009, 18:40
This thread is meant for all those, who want to spread the word of DotD and S.T.A.R.S. to Garena players.
All this info is probably found at garena.com but I'll try to make a simple summary.

What is Garena anyway?
The normal "masterserver" or whatever for Warcraft 3 is battle.net. Garena is an alternative "masterserver", and besides Warcraft 3 you can play for example TF2, Starcraft etc. That is one reason why some people choose to use Garena. Also shared CD-keys are said to work in Garena, which lures more players.

Ok, so how do I use it?
First go to garena.com and download the installer and register an account. Now it would be a great time to double-check that you have the 1.23 for The Frozen Throne. Now log in to your Garena account. About selecting the server: It doesn't matter. You can still play with everyone. That might be what you should start with. After logging in Garena, you should see a list of games at left. From there select War3 TFT. You can also select War3 RPG, but that's appereantly mostly used for playing dota. Though it has a lot more players, rooms are almost all full, and dota rooms are full of people who deticate all of their time for dota, so I don't think they'll change to DotD. I myself use mostly War3 TFT, but which ever you choose, the following instructions are the same. A list regions should appear. If you want to play at the same rooms as me (You must use War3 TFT), choose Europe. Then from Europe and Russia, choose Europe again. Now you'll get a list of rooms. I myself use the four first rooms (1.23 Europe Room, 1.23 Europe Room 2 etc.) See that the rooms have max. capacity of 225 players, which can only be exceeded by a paying member of Garena. Not to worry: usually even the first four rooms aren't all full. Enter a room, and when playing for the first time, select settings. In the "Executable settings" textbox, fill in your Frozen Throne executable path (by default: C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3.exe ) This has to be done only once. Now press "start game" and Garena launches Frozen Throne. From the menu, select Local Area Network (NOT battle.net) The servers should be shown in "games". If you don't see any games, it might be because there's no games that aren't already started. Already started games will not show. Just join a game and BAM! You're playing by Garena.

If you get Garena working, and want to play DotD, add me (nick: Lettijeesus) or my bro (nick: Xerdan) as your friend.
The clan functions of Garena are quite useful, and those of you who start using Garena even part time, should contact me about setting up somekind of S.T.A.R.S. branch for Garena.

Hope this has been even somewhat helpful. Post questions and I'll try to help as much as I can.
