PostSubject: Knife + Other Suggestion   Thu 03 Sep 2009, 00:17

Can't find any references to this suggestion so I assume there isn't or it has been deleted.

Despite the fact that all marines (particularly the U.S.A ones) carry knifes upon deployment, I find the idea rather ridiculous that only lieutenants or higher ranks are given the ability to use their blades during reloads while other lower rank classes are left vulnerable.

I suggest something along these lines:
> All classes are equipped with a blade.
- New Icon added
> Any class that turns on safety trigger - automatically draws blade and speed is increased, vice-versa.
- Description extended/added on the Safety Trigger icon.
- Allows the class to conserve ammo while gathering/hunting/retreating with the ability to do damage
> Previous ability where officer rank or higher that draws a blade to protect himself during reload should remain.

Now regarding the Leadership ability. It is asserted in the description that the officer gives his subordinates confidence; granting them speed/health regen increase. However, I feel it's missing something.. There should be a third ability, something related to damage. I'm not necessarily suggesting a damage increase ability to be added but perhaps the ability to focus: the subordinates will remain calm at the presence of a high ranking tool of the military and focus; increases chance of getting a headshot thus giving other marines increase crit.

On the field, marines do fight and when a high ranking officer approachs, they focus and fight harder.

While what you said about actual militarymen carrying a knife is true, I'm not entirely sure Privates fresh out of Basic are taught how to kill with such a weapon (I could be wrong of course). Knives aren't just for slashing at others, they're a utility as well. One doesnt (more than likely) learn to kill with a knife until they have a bit more experience, and even then, I'm not sure soldiers are nowadays formally trained in such an art.

you really think that privates should hav the ability to survive easily while reloading would help them? i think making their lives so much easier would just make them think they are even more invincible while they stand there, reloading, while being attacked by 10 zombies, and say "wtf! this game sucks!"

if you can't learn to run away from enemies and gather as a team to cover each other while you reload, you won't have the basic knowledge when you get to experience harder difficulty level...

knowledge is power, we need noobs to learn to run away from enemies when they reload, even if he has only 1 hp left...

Sadly we are. Basic training covers everything from RPG's to a form of Hunting Knife lol but I know you didnt say it was false just informing you ^^

Anyway... The idea behind the knife if that its a benifit of having experiance... in reality I dont think any soldier would pull a knife on a corpse and know exactly what to do with it xD I mean if your arguing about the fairness then just remove the knife all together cause it wouldnt really do 2 much damage in the first place =p.

I agree however with the crit chance.. perhaps only 3-5% but I think it would be a good idea for maybe 2x their damage or something.

And I would add that it just makes you wanna play the game more so you can unlock all those great skills. Like Mishotaki said, we shouldn't give pvt this tool cause it would make it easy; you need to work for it since it's something good right?

This game is about tactic; it's the kind of game you need to play again and again to familiarize yourself with the quests, the map and acquire some in-game experience such as diing from staying near a zombie while reloading, attacking a plant at close range; not evading hydra's attacks, etc. Staying near s3rius when he is using Demo --- Eulogy

Games aren't fun when they are too easy.

Uh? having a handgun to use while reloading? how can you use a handgun while reloading dude o.O I mean when you reload you got your hands busy don't you? And btw; it is not possible to have a handgun in replacement of the knife cause NO gun have infinite bullets.. so then we would need a second lumber thingy for the handgun and.. no Smile

I agree with Misho and Zuvas, knives are a bonus for having a high rank.
As a private I'm sure you'd want to stay as far away from those zombies as possible. Experienced soldiers will take chances and attack in melee, too.

The knife is not a normal attack but actually a spell, so it can't have a critical chance.

hum... with that post, maybe you could rename the knife as a bayonet.... as it is something you could actually use while reloading and would make more sense of the range of the attack..

in my mind, i would more see someone stabbing with a bayonette while reloading than guetting his knife out, COD4 style...

yeah Very Happy but s3rius when I said 3-5% crit I didnt mean for Combat Knife I meant as a seperate crit chance for regular weapons for leadership ^^

On that note perhaps each rank you get after Captain, Leadership is improved? VERY slightly but still improved? ofcourse it still doesnt stack

Hmmmm i think discussing this idea its just sticking to old or faimilar ideas that are already ok. We should focus on new ideas :/ rather than improve one that its already really polished.

I doubt it'd be a good idea Eulogy to slight improve Leadership each rank. I mean, if you get a Captain, BG and G in a game, two of the lowest will mostly put to waste and it wouldn't make sense if a general gets the leadership effects from his subordinates as clearly.. they're his subordinates.

huh? that doesnt happen in wc3. Strongest Passive skill gets passed out over all units.

But I see what you mean having the general getting the leadership effect from lets say a Captain but it makes about as much sence as it does now doesnt it? the exact same thing happens at the moment so why complain about something that already exists =/

as a BG I still get leadership from a Captain... isn't that what your saying shouldn't happen? lol

well since i readed a post about UA2, why cant we rifle butt/bayonet/any cool melle attack the zombies, when they get near us?
(works great in UA2)
also if your hands are busy while reloading, why my med can shoot his desert eagle while reloading? O_O. answer: he has 4 hands!(or more than 2)

about the unlimited ammo handgun
if you want an unlimited ammo gun, just say that you have a nanites generator, thats the explanation in SWAT:aftermath Smile

lol xD Aftermath is a great game really.. anyway I agree with the ability to maybe Kick somebody backwards or stun them with a swift kick to the head lol and then as you level 10k you get the combat knife which is basically a better melee attack but only while you reload or trigger safety.. issue with the kick... it would make it very easy to beat bosses when 8 people take turns kicking it in the shins lol

Yes, Medic has 3 arms. Don't ask why. It's a rather embarassing story involving a jar of jam and some caterpillars.

I don't think a standardized melee attack would be a good thing. It would render the combat knife obsolete and invite stupid people to try and knife hordes of zombies, then die and start whining. I know. I've seen it..

Do you also feel left out because Engi is the only one with the Sentry-skill?

The Deagle is there to grant a little more combat efficiency to the Medic. It is and it stays a class-specific skill.

Serius btw. i've played like 100-120 times so far the medic class. I love it. The only thing i hate and think its not well balanced, its the mana cost of deagle.

I think that deagle should be 2-5 mana cost each bullet. or None, if u dont mind ppl spamming it.

In early game, on nm for example, when im scouting alone or with someone, i dont even use my basic weapon, i rather have those 6 bullets with 1200 dmg rather than those 50 with 30 dmg. But its so annoying since i have no RP at that time, that i run out of mana and then cant transf-anti.

:/ what do u think?

I designed Deagle to be a last-second life saver, not to be a substitution for the regular attack. Use it when you need to use it, not when you want to and you will never run out of energy like that.

A Medic is not supposed to scout, kill enemies and still heal. You got to priorize things there.

Lol i understand what u mean, but going to the practical idea of the game...i, as a medic, have saved a whole overrun wisely using the whole 6 bullets on swarms of enemies.

Usually the medic is one of the classes who has more survival, since it can fix himself up. Running out of ammo even using it as a last resort weapon will end up making u not healing ur fallen allies and complete failure etc.

Think about it, its just a free tip from someone who only plays medic ^^... and i never post ideas or critics for my own benefit...only for the whole overal game =)
